April saw the first on the RNRM Stables Spring ball where many people came together to enjoy an evening of entertainment and fantastic food!
People arrived all looking amazing to a champagne reception where they were offered into the bar to watch the Stables recent video about the work we do here. This was a moving video as it showed some of our riders and how they have progressed since working with the horses here at the stables. The evening was a great success, people enjoyed the speeches that were made by our trustee and our committee as well as a great 3 course menu. The evening saw an auction which took place in the bar where, Carl Hester's Jacket he wore at the Olympics was auctioned off, and im pleased to say one of our committee members won this! Many other prizes were auctioned as well as many winners on the raffle. All in all the Ball was a great delight, to gather our members and guests together out of the normal "horsey" clothing and celebrate the successes of the Stables and all those who help. Look out for our next ball..... we hope to see you there.

So yesterday Team Bickleigh - Gemma, Doug, Megan, Suzie, Steve, Charlie and Lorraine along with Anoushka, Tony the pony and Bob the cob hit the road and went to Beer near Axminster to support a Royal British Legion event commemorating the last day of the Battle of the Somme.
It was a humbling and moving event, held in candlelight at the memorial in Beer town centre. Dressed in authentic WW1 uniform, the riders and their horses rode, in the dark down through the closed off road to the memorial - they looked like ghosts of the past as they rode out of the darkness into the light.....eerie, thought provoking and akin to being taken back to that time..... I am so proud of the horses. They were loaded in daylight, driven 2 hours up the motorway to somewhere they had never been to before, unloaded in the dark and asked to ride down dark roads totally unfamiliar to them - without any prior practice. They never put a hoof wrong and are a credit and testament to the trust they have in their owners. I felt so honoured to be a part of an amazing team. Our thanks go to Lisa and Tony for providing amazing transport and getting us there and back safely....not forgetting Milo our newest member of Team Bickleigh! Cannot recommend these guys highly enough. Onwards and upwards, 2017 is going to be awesome! So today, history was made when RMRMRS Bickleigh hosted its first Remembrance service.
The event was attended by the President of the RNRM Riding Stables, Commodore Ian Shipperley, Naval Base Commander at Devonport, along with guests the Lord Mayor of Plymouth, the Royal British Legion and members of the Junior Saddle Club and over 100 family members and friends of the RNRM Stables. And a fantastic time was had by all!!! Matt & Pippa went to meet the horses leading a very special Royal Navy service and poppy parade in memory of horses lost in conflict. Invited guests, dignitaries and members of the Royal British Legion have been invited to the event at Bickleigh Barracks.
